Formula bar

In Excel, a FORMULA BAR is the space at the top of the screen, under the toolbar, where formulas and values are entered or edited, and labels and entries are displayed. If a cell is selected, its contents are displayed in the formula bar. If a formula is selected, Excel allows the contents to be edited.
